The weekend was an eventful one for Newcastle-based online retailer www.ethicalsuperstore.com as it welcomed Andrew Mitchell, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development, to its Ouseburn headquarters on Saturday.

In the city to attend the Conservative Spring Forum at The Sage, Andrew Mitchell crossed the river Tyne and met with the founding partners Vic Morgan, Andy Redfern and many of the staff to discuss the phenomenal success of this ‘ethical amazon’ which is a one stop shop for ethical gifts, eco-friendly gadgets, organic groceries and fair-trade products.

Ethicalsuperstore.com has rapidly become the UK’s leading site for ethical gifts despite being launched less than two years ago. With over 3,500 products now available on the website, ethical sourcing expertise and an in-depth understanding of the ethical consumer have played a pivotal role in the company’s success.

During his visit, Andrew Mitchell said: “Fair trade is not just about charity. It is about better prices, decent working conditions, and fair terms of trade for farmers in the developing world. It’s great to see that Ethical Superstore is making fair trade products more available to people in the UK”

Founding Co-Partner Vic Morgan said: “It was wonderful to be in a position to show Andrew around as he fully understands the importance of fair trade. We sell products from leading ethical brands as well supporting products from independent producers which include products sourced from fair trade suppliers in over 40 countries. We are keen to share our products’ origins on our website, to make it easier for customers to see where products come from and to help them buy what they believe in.”

Ethicalsuperstore.com has recently been commissioned to create a green online store for the Conservative party featuring a wide range of fair trade and ethical products. During his visit Andrew had the chance to preview work on the website.
